Ntihemuka was born in Kibuye in 1978. He is single and a university graduate in management from University Libre de Kigali.
Involvement in Conservation and Tourism
Ntihemuka learned about conservation when he was working as an accountant in the post office. From that point on, he searched for any and all opportunities to work for conservation until he finally came to work with the International Gorilla Conservation Program (IGCP) as an accountant. During this time, he worked closely with rangers and developed a passion to work directly with the park. Initially, he struggled with his conscience to work in the forest rather than public offices. However, in 2006, he enrolled in the park and started working as a guide to gain more experience and learn more. He hasn't looked back since. "Believe me, this is the best work ever! Once you look in the eyes of the gorillas, that's it. The passion, the love just comes automatically."
His Achievement
"I changed my conscience and attitude towards conservation-and feel proud to be part of the conservation team at Parc National des Volcans."
His message to the world
"Conservation should be for all -- a basic instinct for all people to be involved with, without underestimating our contribution. Because it can make a difference and that's a lot in the eyes of the gorillas. Despite your background -- a degree or not, rich or poor -- just know you owe a contribution to conservation and let that contribution flow and get where it is needed." |
