Here’s a detailed day-by-day itinerary focusing on the highlights and logistics of this remarkable journey.
SAMPLE ITINERY
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali, Rwanda
Arrival in Kigali
Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport (KGL), you will be greeted by your guide and transferred to your accommodation in Kigali. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time to explore Kigali, a city known for its cleanliness, vibrant culture, and historical significance.
Kigali City Tour (optional)
If time permits, enjoy a city tour of Kigali. Visit sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which provides a poignant insight into Rwanda’s history, and explore local markets for possible local shopping experience and eateries to get a taste of Rwandan culture.
Accommodation
Spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Kigali, preparing for your upcoming primate adventure in Volcanoes National Park.
Day 2: Golden Monkey Tracking and Transfer to Uganda
Golden Monkey Tracking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, drive to Volcanoes National Park for golden monkey tracking. Golden monkeys are unique to the Rwandan and Ugandan border regions, and tracking them provides a fascinating experience. The trek through the forest is less strenuous than gorilla trekking, but still offers the chance to observe these endangered primates in their natural habitat.
Transfer to Uganda
Following the golden monkey trek, enjoy your lunch at the hotel before embarking on a transfer to Uganda. The drive to your next accommodation via Cyanika border takes approximately 2-3 hours, depending on border formalities. After crossing into Uganda, you will continue to your accommodation near Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Check into your lodge or camp near Bwindi or Mgahinga, where you can relax and prepare for the upcoming gorilla trekking experience.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Uganda
Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi or Mgahinga
After breakfast, set out for your gorilla trekking adventure. Uganda offers a more affordable gorilla permit price at a current rate US $800, making it a cost-effective choice for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trek through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park provides an opportunity to encounter one
of the world’s most endangered species, the mountain gorilla.
Lunch and Return
After your gorilla trek, return to your accommodation for a well-deserved lunch. Spend the rest of the day reflecting on your extraordinary encounter with the gorillas.
Evening Relaxation
Enjoy dinner and relax at your lodge or camp. This is a great time to unwind and share stories from your trek with fellow travellers.
Day 4: Return to Kigali and Fly to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
Transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, transfer back to Kigali. The journey back provides a final opportunity to enjoy Rwanda’s scenic beauty and reflect on your experiences. Upon arrival in Kigali, you may have some free time to explore or relax before your flight.
Fly to Kilimanjaro, Tanzania
In the afternoon or early evening, head to Kigali International Airport for your flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) in Tanzania. The flight typically takes around 1.5 hours. Upon arrival in Kilimanjaro, you’ll be greeted by your Tanzanian guide and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha or Moshi.

Spend the night in Arusha or Moshi, preparing for the next leg of your safari adventure.
Day 5: Transfer to Tarangire National Park
Journey to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant herds and impressive baobab trees. The drive from Arusha to Tarangire takes approximately 2 hours.
Afternoon Game Drive
Arrive in Tarangire and embark on an afternoon game drive. The park’s varied landscapes, including riverine forests and swamps, provide excellent opportunities for wildlife sightings, including elephants, lions, and a variety of bird species.

Choose from a range of accommodation options in Tarangire, from luxurious lodges to comfortable tented camps. Enjoy dinner and unwind after your game drive.
Day 6: Full Day Safari in Tarangire National Park
Morning GAME Drive
Start your day with an early morning game drive to maximise wildlife sightings. Tarangire’s large elephant herds and diverse fauna are particularly active in the cooler morning hours.
Picnick Lunch
Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the park’s stunning scenery. This allows you to make the most of your safari activities without returning to your accommodation.
Afternoon Game Drive
Continue exploring Tarangire with an afternoon game drive. The park’s varying landscapes offer different habitats for a range of wildlife.
Return to Accomodation
Return to your lodge or camp in the evening for dinner and relaxation.
Day 7: Transfer to Serengeti National Park
Journey to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park, one of Tanzania’s most renowned wildlife destinations. The drive takes you through the scenic landscapes of the Great Rift Valley.
Afternoon Game Drive
Arrive in Serengeti and embark on an afternoon game drive. The park’s endless plains are famous for their incredible wildlife, including the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. Depending on the season, you might witness the Great Migration, one of nature’s most spectacular events.
Accommodation
Serengeti offers a variety of accommodation options, from luxurious lodges to tented camps. Many lodges provide excellent wildlife viewing opportunities right from your doorstep.
Day 8: Full Day Safari in Serengeti National Park

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater Excursion
Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater
After breakfast, drive to Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its remarkable biodiversity. The drive includes scenic views of the highlands and the caldera’s lush landscapes.
Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater
Descend into the crater for a day of game viewing. The crater floor is home to a dense population of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffaloes, and rhinos. Enjoy a picnic lunch within the crater and take in the stunning scenery.
Return to Arusha
After your game drive, return to Arusha or Moshi for your final night in Tanzania.

Spend the night in Arusha or Moshi, preparing for your departure the next day.
Day 10: Departure
Final Relaxation and Transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for last-minute shopping or relaxation in Arusha or Moshi. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight.
Departure
Board your flight and head home, cherishing the memories of an unforgettable safari experience across Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania.
when can I go?
You can book your gorilla trek and visit any time of the year however the best time
for gorilla trekking in Rwanda and Uganda is considered to be during the dry seasons from June to September and December to February.
For Tanzania, the dry season (June to October) is ideal for game viewing, while the wet season (November to May) offers lush landscapes and fewer crowds.

We all love gorillas, don't we? In fact, gorilla permits are extremely popular and tend to sell out quickly.
