SAMPLE ITINERY

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Tarangire National Park

Arrival in Tanzania
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you’ll be greeted by your safari guide who will assist you with your transfer to your first destination. Depending on your flight schedule, you might spend the night in Arusha before heading to Tarangire National Park.

Transfer to Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park, located approximately 120 kilometres southwest of Arusha, is renowned for its large herds of elephants and impressive baobab trees. The drive to the park offers a glimpse of Tanzania’s varied landscapes, transitioning from the highlands to the drier, open savannah.


Evening Game Drive

Arrive in Tarangire and embark on your first game drive. The park’s distinctive features, such as the vast baobab trees and seasonal Tarangire River, create a unique safari experience. You’ll have the chance to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and a variety of bird species.


Accommodation

Accommodation options in Tarangire range from luxurious lodges to comfortable tented camps. Each provides a distinctive safari experience with excellent amenities and opportunities for wildlife viewing.

Day 2: Full Day Safari in Tarangire National Park

 

Morning Game Drive

Begin your day with an early morning game drive to maximise your chances of spotting wildlife. Tarangire’s large elephant herds and diverse fauna are particularly active during the cooler morning hours. Look out for herds of wildebeest, zebras, and various antelope species.


Picnic Lunch

Enjoy a picnic lunch amidst the park’s stunning scenery. This is an excellent opportunity to relax and take in the surroundings while keeping an eye out for wildlife.

Afternoon GAME drive

In the afternoon, continue your exploration of Tarangire with another game drive. The park’s varying landscapes, including swamps and riverine forests, provide different habitats for a range of wildlife.


Return to Accomodation
Return to your lodge or camp in the evening to unwind and enjoy dinner. Reflect on the day’s experiences and prepare for the next day of your safari.


 

Day 3: Transfer to Serengeti National Park

Journey to Serengeti National Park
After breakfast, you’ll depart for Serengeti National Park. The drive takes you through the picturesque landscapes of the Great Rift Valley, offering scenic views and opportunities to spot wildlife along the way. Alternatively, you may opt for a short domestic flight to Serengeti for a quicker transfer.


Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive
Upon arrival in Serengeti, embark on an afternoon game drive. Serengeti’s endless plains are renowned for their incredible wildlife, including the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The park’s diverse ecosystems provide ample opportunities for wildlife sightings.

Accomodation

Serengeti offers a range of accommodation options, from luxurious lodges to tented camps. Many lodges are strategically located to provide excellent wildlife viewing right from your doorstep.

Day 4: Full Day Safari in Serengeti National Park

Morning Game Drive
Start your day with an early morning game drive in Serengeti. The park’s vast plains are home to large herds of wildebeest and zebras, and if you’re visiting during the Great Migration, you may witness this spectacular event.


Serengeti National Park Exploration
Explore different areas of Serengeti, such as the Central Serengeti’s Seronera Valley and the Southern Serengeti. Each region offers unique wildlife viewing opportunities and stunning landscapes.


Picnic Lunch
Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park, allowing you to make the most of your day’s safari activities without returning to your accommodation.


Evening Game Drive
Return to the park for an evening game drive. The cooler temperatures often bring out predators such as lions and cheetahs, providing excellent opportunities for evening wildlife sightings.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater Excursion

Transfer to Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater. The journey includes a scenic drive through the highlands, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.


Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater

Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a day of game viewing. This UNESCO World Heritage site is renowned for its dense wildlife population and diverse habitats. The crater floor is home to elephants, lions, buffaloes, rhinos, and a variety of bird species.


Picnic Lunch
Enjoy a picnic lunch at a designated spot within the crater. This allows you to take in the spectacular views and relax amidst the wildlife.


Return to Serengeti or Overnight in Ngorongoro

Depending on your preference, you can return to Serengeti for the night or stay inNgorongoro. Staying in Ngorongoro offers additional opportunities for game viewing and relaxation.

Day 6: Departure

Final Game Drive and Breakfast

On your final morning, you might have time for a brief game drive or a leisurely breakfast at your accommodation. This is a great opportunity to reflect on your safari experiences and take in the last views of Tanzania’s stunning landscapes.


Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, you’ll be transferred back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight. If time allows, you can explore Arusha or do some last-minute  shopping before heading to the airport.

when can I go?

Tanzania’s safari season is excellent year-round, but the dry season (June to October) is best for game viewing, while the wet season (November to May) offers lush landscapes and fewer crowds.

 

The Great Migration in Serengeti, typically from June to October, is a particularly spectacular event to witness.

The charge per person ($50) for the Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village visit goes directly to the Local Community Trust Fund, which supports community projects to increase both incentives for conservation and linkages to community socio-economic development.

What to pack?
  • Clothing: Pack light, breathable clothing in neutral colours. Include a light
    jacket for cooler mornings and evenings.

  • Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes and sandals are essential.

  • Camera: Bring a good camera with zoom capabilities to capture wildlife and
    landscapes.

  • Other Essentials: Don’t forget sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and
    binoculars.

  • Vaccinations: Ensure you have necessary vaccinations such as yellow fever and malaria prophylaxis.

  • Travel Insurance: Obtain comprehensive travel insurance covering medical
    emergencies and trip cancellations.
